Serdang, 8 August- In today’s society, knowing different languages is becoming important. Knowing languages will not only provide a variety of job opportunities but also allow people to understand and respect different cultures and customs. Therefore, with the aim to enable the public to acquire the knowledge of foreign languages and their cultures and customs, the Centre for the Advancement of Language Competence (CALC) offers a wide range of global language courses such as Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, Spanish, German, French, Turkish and Myanmar to the public via face-to-face learning as well as online classes. These courses are conducted by experienced and qualified language teachers. The language teachers at CALC employ effective and creative teaching methods to ensure learners learn to speak their language of choice quickly and effectively.   

The Global Language Course this year was conducted online on 27 May – 15 July 2023. There were 3 languages offered – Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic. The global language courses are offered annually through a 16-hour course at an affordable price. Learners will attend the language course for 8 weeks and each session is held for 2 hours on weekends. Learning materials will also be provided to the learners. In this 16-hour course, learners will learn topics on sound system, greetings, self-introduction, family members, nationality, occupation, and other topics depending on the selected language course. Classes are conducted in fun and interactive sessions in which the language teachers will also share information on cultures and customs. Based on feedback received from learners that have attended the global language courses, they have enjoyed the language courses and hoped to attend more language courses offered by CALC UPM in the future.
